Image
Hi, this is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share my thoughts on how you can gain self-compassion and internal emotional safety. Maybe at this point you have watched my videos on what I think is the key to personal growth -- emotional safety.  So, perhaps you also accept that you need to be more self compassionate so that you can get unstuck and start to be able to make positive changes in your life.  This mean changing your relationship with yourself so that you have a kind, supportive, encouraging presence within.  But how do you go about doing this?  Good question.  I think there are 5 elements involves in self compassion or internal emotional safety - 2 are steps in the process and 3 are paths to get from step 1 to step 2. STEP 1: AWARENESS The first step is awareness.  You can't fix what you can't see, so start investigating.   What are you feeling?  Is it anger?  Betrayal?  Embarrassment?  Shame?  Fear?  Loneliness?  Differentia

How I Take Client Notes on an iPad using Notability

Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share how I take and organize client notes on my iPad using Notability. I'm pretty committed to a paperless existence.  I only print things out when I'm absolutely required and I scan whatever papers I'm given so that I can recycle them.  I have a whole bunch of videos on what tools I use for other paperless pursuits like packing lists and class notes, but in today's video -- I'm going to share how I use Notability to organize my client notes. I've just recently become a mental health therapist.  One of the hacks that use to pay attention in ANY environment is to take lots of notes.  I have a world class terrible memory and am highly distractible, so taking notes helps me to pay attention in the moment AND it also creates a convenient written record to assist my memory later on.   But therapists aren't the only ones who take client notes.  Almost anyone who mee

Hi, everyone!  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share my hack for using Visa gift cards on Amazon without having to strategically plan purchases for the exact amount of the gift card. This year, the rebate for my contact purchases was in the form of an electronic Visa card.  I find Visa gift cards super annoying to use.  First, I have to remember that I even have them to spend.  Then it generally okay for the first purchase on the gift card, but after that, I have to remember how much I have left on it and, if it's less than the full purchase, I have to be in a place that will allow you to use several different cards for the same purchase.  Annoying.  Electronic Visa cards take this annoyance to a new level.  First of all, it was easy enough to add to my Amazon account as a new payment method.  And I went ahead and used it for my first purchase -- which was $71.76 for Nespresso pods.  But when I went to use it for another purhcase,

How to Handle Amazon Gift Cards in YNAB (also Returns for Credit)

Hi, everyone!  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll show you how I handle Amazon Gift Cards and returns for store credit in YNAB.  Although I'm making this specific to Amazon and to YNAB, you can use this method with any online store that gives store credit or gift cards and any budget system that allows for split transactions. The combination of my aversion to in person shopping and Amazon's quick shipping means that we buy A LOT of stuff from Amazon.  In addition, this year we seem to have gotten a lot of Amazon gift cards.  My son graduated from high school and got a bunch of gift cards, my husband got one from his firm as a token of appreciation, and I just got one from Gallop as a reward for participating in a particularly comprehensive survey.  If you've ever gotten an Amazon gift card, you know how they work.  You apply them to your account and then the next purchases that you make automatically come out of this gift ca
