Part 2 - EFT Tapping: Gain Self-Compassion and Inner Emotional Safety

Image
Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll continue my series on EFT Tapping.  I think it's a brilliant way to gain Self-Compassion and what I call Internal Emotional Safety.  This is the second in a two part series. In the first video, I gave you an overview of EFT tapping and talked about the verbal, emotional, and physical components to it.  In this video I'll cover why I think it works and how it evokes self-compassion or internal emotional safety.  First of all, Why Does it Work? Honestly, we don't really know.   Again, I'm not convinced by the initial claims around releasing stuck energy.  But, here is my theory.  I think the tapping activates our soothing and nurturance system.  Engaging this system was how we calmed down as babies.  Parents use a gentle voice and touch to calm and sooth unhappy babies.  This releases all of these feel-good neuro-chemicals like oxytocin and endorphins to calm our nervous sys

Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll talk about using EFT Tapping as a way to gain Self-Compassion and what I call Internal Emotional Safety.  This is the first in a two part series. I think emotional safety is the key ingredient to making lasting and real changes in your life.  You can see my video on this, but the upshot is that even though I think both external and internal emotional safety are important, only  internal safety is required for lasting behavior change. Meaning -- you have to give yourself love and compassion.  The ability to be kind and sooth yourself allows you to face the world in all its challenges and difficulties and know that you can handle it and will bounce back.  But the big question is -- how do I go about feeling emotionally safe?  How do I learn to be self compassionate?   We understand how to heal with others by learning how to trust, but how the heck am I supposed to heal on my own?  I think E

Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share more about what I think is the magic ingredient in personal growth and change -- emotional safety.  This is the second of a 2-part series. In the first video in this series, I talk about what I mean by emotional fear or safety and how we acquire our emotional fear levels.  Now let's talk about the Problems with Emotional Fear Aside from what I've already said, which is bad enough, why else does it matter that we don't feel emotionally safe?  Because unless you feel safe, your threat system is constantly activated.  You are in hiding in a closet from an active shooter, constantly worried that he will fling the door open and find you.  Your alarms are constantly sounding and you are hunkered down in full protection mode.  If you make a sound, he might hear you, so you don't move a muscle and you wait for the threat to pass -- but it never does.  If you show any emotion

Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share what I think is the magic ingredient in personal growth and change -- emotional safety.  This is the first part of a 2-part series. Okay -- so I've come up with some theories about the nature of human behavior and change and I thought I'd share them with you.  The question is -- why does it sometimes feel like we're stuck?  Stuck in our old patterns and behaviors -- wanting to make changes, knowing change would be better for us -- and yet, not being able to do it or do it consistently?  I believe that real and lasting change only happens when you feel emotionally safe.  This is a concept that is widely understood when working with clients who have experienced trauma, but I have come to believe that it is nearly universal human need.  Let's look for a second at Maslow's hierarchy of needs.  First we need the basics for our bodies -- food, water, shelter.  Next, we
