Why I Switched to Todoist from Toodledo

Image
Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll tell you why I switched my task/reminder app platfrom from Toodledo to Todoist. Of all of the apps and systems that I use to keep my life straight, I one I look at the most throughout the day is definitely my task/reminder system.   It serves as a checklist during the day to ensure that get things done and it helps me to remember things that I need to do in the future.  Up until recently, I had been using Toodledo for task management.  Toodledo was basically fine for my needs.  It is highly configurable and has great options for recurring tasks.  There were a couple of issues, however. First of all, it is pretty basic looking.  The interface looks like it got stuck in the early 90s.  It really doesn't try to hide the fact that it is really just a big spreadsheet. Second, the mobile app, while fine, is pretty clunky, not slick at all, and do...

How to Use Todoist for College

Image
Hi, everyone!  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll show you how I use Todoist to manage my work in graduate school. I've been using two task management platforms in parallel to manage my work for grad school this semester.  I just did some videos recently on how to use Trello to manage school work in college/university and also high school.  This video is about Todoist.  Apologies in advance if you've already seen the other videos -- there will be a little duplication. Although I really like the versatility and richness of features from Trello, in the end, I've decided to use Todoist based on my requirements and needs.  I've actually started using it for all my task management, but in this video, I'll just talk about managing college work.    I'm in a part-time, partial distance learning program and am taking three classes this semester.  Because of this, my set up will be a little simpler than...

How to Use Todoist for High School

Image
Hi, everyone.  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll show you how I helped my kids organize their high school work using Todoist. I'm a bit of an organizational system junkie, but obviously not everyone is.  I've been trying to find a system that works well for organizing tasks for each of my kids and they both have really different styles.  I started out using Trello with both of my kids -- you can see my video on that.  My son almost immediately found it too complicated and confusing to use.  Fair enough.  He really just wanted to use one of those super oversimplified homework apps, but after trying a couple out, I thought they were way too limited.  So, he's now using Todoist to manage school work, chores, and his college application process. Because we were looking for a simple system, this use of Todoist is fairly straightforward.  Simple is important though -- the more complicated you make thi...

How to Use Trello for High School

Image
Hi, everyone!  This is  Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share how I've helped my kids set up Trello to organize their high school assignments and school work. I've been testing out 2 organization systems in parallel for my grad school work -- Trello and Todoist.  They are both great applications, but different.  Based on their preferences, one of my high schoolers is using Trello and the other is using Todoist.  In this video, I'll share how you can set Trello up to help you organize your high school assignments and work. I have a massive pet peeve about high school and the way assignments are given.  In middle school, assignments were given out day by day, but there was quite a bit of hand holding and some leeway to make sure students got things done.  In college, professors are required to give their students a syllabus at the beginning of the semester with the entire four months already entirely plann...

Use Toodledo for Regular Get Togethers with Friends and Family

Image
Hi, everyone!  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll share how I use Toodledo to remind myself to schedule outings with family and friends on a regular basis. How many times has this happened to you?  You are with people you really enjoy, but see infrequently.  You've just had a great time together and at the end of the evening, you all say "We should really do this more often!"  That used to be a recurring refrain in my social interactions.  Almost like a goodbye greeting.  Or, the analogous hello greeting would be, "It's been way too long since we got together last!"   So, it occurred to me that perhaps in some cases this was just social niceties, but in many cases, we actually  WERE unhappy that it had been so long since we had gotten together.  And we really DID want to get together more often.  In those cases, I decided I could make that happen with a reminder system. So, I ...

My ADHD Brain: Task Management with Toodledo and Notability

Image
Hi, everyone!  This is Lara Hammock from the Marble Jar channel and in today's video I'll tell you about the system I use for task management.  This is part of a series on my ADHD brain and all of the systems I use to compensate for a lack of internal structure and organization. Okay -- so, I have a video that gives an overview of my organizational processes and apps. Then I have a video that describes how I use Gmail to funnel all of the digital information coming into my life into a single stream.  This video discusses one of the core elements of my organization system -- task management. I am a list keeper -- always have been.  One of my weaknesses is in working memory, which is the ability to keep more than 2 things in your head actively.  I was a waitress for a couple of summers and I was a perfectly good waitress if I had a pad of paper to write everything down.  But things really fell about when customers asked for things as I was rushing th...
